BIG W
In my current role of Design Lead at BIG W, I have been instrumental in leading multiple business-critical design projects. Highlights include the Value Every Day cross-channel campaign, plus the business sustainability framework which consisted of brand guidelines and a multi-page online hub. I have led and mentored a design team to allow them to upskill and grow in their individual roles, while delivering business outcomes and keeping customer journey top of mind. As a hands-on role, I’ve not been afraid to get stuck in myself where needed. More recently, I have been our design team’s agile advocate - which has involved weekly sprints of short term trade work. This has allowed me to manage multiple stakeholders across the entirety of the business, and to juggle efficiency with design precision. Our team recently won Marketing Team of the Year at the 2022 B&T awards, a personal highlight.
My previous BIG W role was Digital Designer. Working within a fast-paced marketing department, this role consisted of concepting, designing and rolling out of assets across multiple print and digital channels including edm, website, social, HTML, POS and catalogue. Personal highlights include concepting and developing cohesive visual brand marks for BlueDot and BrandCo internal teams, and animation of captions for ‘Toy Squad’ campaign social videos. On top of the skills needed for day-to-day design work, I also put myself forward to develop and lead an After Effects animation training session to upskill the wider team, recognising skills that I had that could benefit the designers. I also helped coach and train two team members during the ‘Toy Squad’ campaign; leading them through the animation process and ensuring high-quality delivery to deadline and budget.
DESIGN LEAD SECONDMENT
During my time at BIG W, I successfully completed an eight week Design Lead secondment. I relished the opportunity to be hands on in ideating campaign creative while working with multiple stakeholders, both internal and external. This role also included overseeing a team of designers and reviewing and approving assets for multiple streams including catalogue, eDM, website and animation.
2019 – 2020
Freelance
In-house and agency roles including M&C Saatchi, The Monkeys, Chatime Group and Hungry Jack’s. This work has included print, digital, social, OOH, photography, and large scale conference screen motion design. I also had the opportunity to work with Q-Biotics, concepting and developing a new brand identity. I relished the multiple opportunities I had while freelancing to jump in and help out, no matter what the brief or part of the creative process, from concepting to dispatch.
Key achievements include being re-booked or extended in all of my placements, and the launch of Goobne restaurant from creating the visual identity and art direction through to asset roll out which included menu design, POS, digital, social and animation. I also proved my ability to work to a high standard under pressure when rolling out high volumes of POS, OOH, social, digital and print for BWS.
2018 – 2019
whitegrey (Hogarth)
During my time as both contractor and full-time staff member, I worked on campaigns with clients such as Volvo, Property NSW and Royal Caribbean. My role consisted of designing and animating social posts, HTML digital display banners, eDM content and OOH artwork for both print and digital displays. On top of this, I was the in-house image retoucher which included reformatting and extending imagery based on campaign requirements.
2017 – 2018
TRAFFIK MARKETING
Working in the experiential and shopper marketing business within the BBDO Group, my responsibilities as mid-weight designer included creating POS, roll-out and photoshop visualisations of brand activations for a range of FMCG clients. Projects of note include Mr Kipling photography and social posts, Captain Morgan Tinder activity, and Tim Tam ‘3 Wishes’ national campaign. During my time at Traffik I also received two consecutive nominations for employee of the month.
2016 – 2017
CLEMENGER BBDO
With experience across brands including Hungry Jack’s, Campbell Arnott’s, Virgin Australia, Foxtel, Pepsi and Mars Food Australia (confectionary, condiments, pet food), my role at Clemenger BBDO was designer, finished artist and photographer. Responsibilities included responding to briefs with tight deadlines, concepting and executing retail designs such as menuboards, artworking files for print and designing pitches for new business. Nominated for Standout Employee in Dec 2016, I proved to my colleagues that I am an asset in my teams and a value to the workplace.
Education
UPSKILLER UX
Working with Angus and Robertson through Harness Projects, I developed a new creative solution for users’ online book library. As a team we conducted user research, created customer journey maps and user personas. Individually I concepted and wireframed my UX solution, eventually conducting more tests, refining, and building into a working prototype which was very well received by the client.
